Background

The Nurse and Radiographer Travelling Professor for Interventional Radiology is jointly funded by BSIR and Minnova Medical Foundation to promote careers in interventional radiology to undergraduate students in radiography and nursing within the UK.  



Nature

The Travelling Professor will be expected to undertake 6-8 visits to universities, radiography and nursing schools, and training hospitals across the UK over a period of 12 months, to deliver lectures and undertake appropriate workshops or small group teaching as part of each visit.

One lecture will be recorded and made available online, which can be delivered as a webinar.



Purpose

The purpose of the visits is educational: to promote the technical, clinical, and research opportunities available in IR for nurses and radiographers, to provide career guidance and mentorship opportunities for students interested in pursuing IR specialisation, to highlight the rewards of a career in interventional radiology and to foster high quality interventional radiology throughout the UK. 

Applications are invited from experienced nurses and radiographers who can provide valuable insights into day-to-day interventional radiology practice as well as those who have a particular field of expertise or academic research.

Up to £2,000



Eligibility

The travelling professorship is open to nurses and radiographers who are BSIR members in good standing, resident in the United Kingdom and in active clinical practice as well as those who have a particular field of expertise or academic research.at the time of the application and the award/visits.

Candidates should submit; a current curriculum vitae; a 200-400 word description of the applicant’s record and a description of why they would be suitable for the representative role; and complete the attached lecture form with a list of proposed workshop/lecture titles suitable for presentation to undergraduate students, in radiography, nursing and allied health professions programmes and detail what learning outcomes will be achieved by those in attendance.

An Appointments Board combined of BSIR Executive Officers and Education & Training Committee members will consider applications. All applications will be anonymised prior to review by the Board. The decision of the Appointments Board is final and binding, applicants will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible after the decision has been approved.
