Interventional Radiology emerged by challenging convention and embracing innovation through close collaboration with industry. The BSIR is committed to training IR clinicians to be future leaders at the heart of this through a unique Industry Scholarship programme. 

The BSIR Industry Scholarship programme is a pioneering initiative designed to foster early-stage, meaningful engagement between interventional radiology trainees and leaders in the healthcare-industry ecosystem. It offers a unique insight into how commercial organisations cooperate within the healthcare environment to improve the provision of clinical care. 

This flexible programme is designed around the realities of clinical training, offering protected access to the medical device industry without compromising progression. It has been specifically structured to overcome the main barriers trainees face, providing a formal education with minimal time commitment and offering access to industry leaders.



Programme Structure

This scholarship will consist of a comprehensive online learning programme, alongisde fully funded visits to offices of corporate sponsors, which will be delivered by industry partners over the course of 2026.

  • Research and Development: From concept to creation in medical devices.
  • Technology & Innovation: Pioneering transformative progress in medical devices.
  • Creativity & Entrepreneurship: Tapping your mind to build your first product.
  • Corporate Strategy: How companies align teams for product success.
  • Clinical Development Strategy: Driving device adoption through validated evidence.
  • Market Access: Strategies for to succeed in procurement and contracts.
  • Health Economics: Understanding value-based healthcare in medical devices.
  • Regulatory Affairs: Navigating compliance and approval pathways.
  • Product Quality & Incident Management: Ensuring precision and quality assurance.
  • Sales & Marketing: Promotion within regulatory boundaries of medical technology.
  • Financial Responsibility: Evaluating return on investment and profitability.
  • Funding Pathways: Investment, venture capital and start-up financing.
  • Organisation Behaviour: Mastering team dynamics in medical technology.
  • Sustainability: Balancing and integrating responsibility in healthcare.

Corporate sponsor visits may occur across both UK and European sites, with travel arrangements funded through our generous industry partners. These will offer the opportunity to:

  • Visit manufacturing and research facilities to gain a practical understanding of industry.
  • Attend office networking session to develop your professional network.
  • Attend practical workshops and utilise state of the art educational simulators.


Selection Process

To ensure the programme is delivered at the highest standard possible, a two-part competitive application process will be used to select candidates based on merit, motivation, potential benefit and suitability.

Applications will initially be filtered through a review of their CV and submitted question response. Selected candidates will then be invited to a short online interview.

 “What is your motivation behind applying for the BSIR Industry Scholarship?”  

Maximum 300 words.

Key application tips

  • Use your CV as an opportunity to highlight previous experience within adjacent relevant domains. Examples may include:
    • Previous internships or work experience in other sectors such as finance, consulting and pharmaceuticals.
    • Previous projects which grew your technical skills such as clinical engineering, product development or strategic planning.
    • List non-traditional skills which you think may be valuable such as data science, programming or financial modelling. 
  • Use the question response as a chance to explain:
    • What you intend to gain from completing the scholarship, regardless of your previous experience.
    • How you may utilise this scholarship to progress your professional career in both IR training and external interests. 
    • What current barriers you have currently faced in gaining experience and how this scholarship may help.
    • How you might contribute towards the development of the scholarship as an alumnus. 


Timeline
  • Applications are open until Friday 13th February 2026.
  • Applications will then be reviewed by a selection panel. 
  • Successful applicants will be notified on Thursday 19th February.
  • Interviews will take place the morning of Wednesday 25th February, please make sure you are available.

As such, it is expected that scholars will attend all events unless there are extenuating circumstances.
