BSIR Honorary Awards Open Nominations Process
BSIR values the contributions of all of its members. We are keen to hear your nominations for potential recipients of the Society Awards: the BSIR Gold Medal, Distinguished Fellows and Honorary Fellows.
All nominations will be considered by the Executive Officers to inform decision making in a face to face meeting each year. Recipients will then be notified in advance of the BSIR Annual Scientific Meeting, when the Awards are bestowed in person.
Gold Medallists
- The Gold Medal is the highest honour bestowed by BSIR. Established in 2001, the Gold Medal is a prestigious honour presented to members whose exceptional contributions and leadership have made a significant and lasting impact on interventional radiology in the UK. It specifically recognises outstanding dedication, excellence, and commitment to advancing the Society and its mission.
- Ordinarily, there will be one nominee per year, but in exceptional circumstances there may be more than one nominee or none at all.
- The following criteria will be taken into consideration when assessing nominees:
- They should have made outstanding national and international contributions to advancing the practice of interventional radiology.
- They should be, or have been, a UK-based Interventional Radiologist and a BSIR Member, who has made a significant contribution to the development of the BSIR.
- Gold Medallists receive a certificate and gold medal at the Annual Scientific Meeting. For the meeting in which they receive their medal, they are entitled to reimbursement for travel and accommodation. Following the meeting, they will be acknowledged by name on the BSIR website.
Distinguished Fellows
- Established in 2025, the Distinguished Fellowship acknowledges notable achievement within UK interventional radiology. It highlights important professional accomplishments and meaningful contributions to the advancement of interventional radiology nationally.
- Ordinarily there will be no more than two nominees per year, but in exceptional circumstances more than two nominees shall be permitted.
- The following criteria will be taken into consideration when assessing nominees:
- They should have made exceptional contributions to advancing the practice of interventional radiology in the UK.
- They should be, or have been, a UK-based Interventional Radiologist, but they do not have to be, or have been, a BSIR Member, nor actively involved with the BSIR.
- Distinguished Fellows receive a certificate at the Annual Scientific Meeting. For the meeting in which they receive their award, they are entitled to reimbursement for travel and accommodation. Following the meeting, they will be acknowledged by name on the BSIR website.
Honorary Fellows
- The BSIR Honorary Fellowship recognises longstanding commitment to supporting interventional radiology in the UK by someone who is not a member of the BSIR.
- Ordinarily there will be no more than two nominees per year, but in exceptional circumstances more than two nominees shall be permitted.
- Honorary Fellows do not have to be, or have been, UK-based, nor do they have to be, or have been, an interventional radiologist.
- Honorary Fellows receive a certificate at the Annual Scientific Meeting. For the meeting in which they receive their award, they are entitled to reimbursement for travel and accommodation. Following the meeting, they will be acknowledged by name on the BSIR website.
If you would like to nominate a colleague for a BSIR Society Award, you may submit one nomination per category. Nominations are now closed for 2026 and will reopen in 2027.
