BSIR Trainees Committee 2025 - 2026

The BSIR Trainee Special Interest Committee is inviting expressions of interest from Trainee members to sit on the Trainee special Interest Committee and to be Trainee representatives on the:

• BSIR Scientific Programme Committee
• BSIR Vascular Anomalies Special Interest Committee,
• BSIR Paeds IR Special Interest Committee

Committee membership offers the opportunity to contribute to education, research and workforce development, while developing leadership skills and expanding your professional network.

The BSIR Trainee committee meets virtually once a month, with additional opportunities to support specific projects, study days and conference activities. We are particularly keen to hear from members with a special interest in vascular anomalies, the trainee ASMs scientific programme, and paediatric IR.

The closing date for applications is 14th October 2026.

Following the closing date, shortlisted candidates may be invited to a brief interview before new members are co-opted onto the committee.

BSIR Trainee Committee 

Scientific Programme Committee (SPC) – 1 Trainee member

The Scientific Programme Committee is responsible for planning and producing the scientific programme and for delivery of the Annual Scientific Meeting.

Trainee Committee member role:

• Be the conduit for information between BSIRT and SPC.
• Devise content for trainee content in ASM programme.
• Liaise with IR Juniors to devise content for medical students and foundation doctors in ASM programme.

Vascular Anomalies Committee: 2 Trainee members

The Vascular Anomalies Special Interest Group - UK is a forum for clinicians and those with an interest in the study and management of vascular anomalies. 

The purpose of the Vascular Anomalies SIC is to

• To promote good practice and raise the profile of IR in the management of vascular anomalies
• To support the development of services and expertise in the management of vascular anomalies around the country
• To promote the exchange of information, learning and experience amongst UK interventional radiologists and other healthcare professionals managing patients with vascular anomalies in the UK
• To promote multidisciplinary collaboration in the management of patients with vascular anomalies
• To stimulate research, innovation and training in the field of vascular anomalies
• To strengthen networking with all stakeholders including regulators, industry and public

Paediatric IR Special Interest Committee – 1 Trainee member

The Paediatric IR Special Interest Committee is focussed on improving healthcare for children, supporting IRs around the UK who’d like advice and input, and inspiring the next generation of PIRs.

The purpose of the Paediatric IR SIC is to

• Provide a forum for discussion, mentoring and education regarding paediatric IR
• Promote the highest standards of practice in paediatric IR in the United Kingdom
• To raise the profile of paediatric IR within the UK
• Help develop services and expertise around the country
• Promote the exchange of information, learning and experience amongst UK interventional radiologists who have an interest in paediatric IR
• Develop a specific paediatric IR education program and explore teaching options to encourage/facilitate practice by paediatric diagnostic radiologists and adult IRs
• Promote collaborative research and quality improvement
