BSIR 2026 Essay Scholarships

If you are a Medical Student, Foundation Doctor, Nurse, Radiographer, or Trainee, and have been a member of BSIR for at least 12 months, you have the opportunity to submit an essay for the BSIR Annual Scientific Meeting 2026.

By submitting a case study, you will become eligible for a BSIR Essay Scholarship, which will include free registration to BSIR 2026, and up to £400 of financial support to cover economic travel expenses and accommodation for the event. These awards are from a fixed pot of funding and will only be offered to a percentage of the top scoring essays.

To submit an essay for BSIR 2026, you must be a Medical Student, Foundation Doctor, Nurse, Radiographer, or Trainee, and have been a member of BSIR for at least 12 months. 

Essays submitted by consultants will be disqualified.

• Entrants are asked to submit an essay using this specific title “What will the role of an interventional radiologist look like in 2050? How do you think IR will have changed procedurally, clinically, technologically and beyond by then?”
• Please adhere to the word count (500 words), do not attempt to exceed it by omitting spaces or adding underscores.
• References are in addition and do not count towards the final word count.
• Essays that exceed the word count will be rejected.
• Use of AI: Submissions must be the entrant's own original work. AI tools may be used for limited support, such as proofreading or formatting, but not to generate the substantive content of the essay or case study. BSIR reserves the right to disqualify entries that are found to be predominantly AI-generated.

Essays will be scored on the below:

• Quality of the essay construction
• Content of the essay
• The relevance to Interventional Radiology

• Successful applicants will have their registration fee for the BSIR ASM 2026 waived, an email with a registration link will be sent to you after your success is confirmed.
• Successful applicants are expected to arrange and pay for their own economic travel and accommodation.
• Successful applicants will be sent a BSIR Expenses claim form after the BSIR ASM, where receipts can be uploaded for reimbursement.
• All expenses must be claimed within 3 months of the ASM (deadline 31st January 2027).
• Daily attendance checks will be carried out at the meeting. Successful applicants must register with Abbey each day.
• Use of AI: Submissions must be the entrant's own original work. AI tools may be used for limited support, such as proofreading or formatting, but not to generate the substantive content of the essay or case study. BSIR reserves the right to disqualify entries that are found to be predominantly AI-generated.

Essay Scholarships exist to enable attendance at the meeting only. There will be no formal presentation of essay submissions at the event. Successful applicants will be offered free registration to attend the BSIR Annual Scientific Meeting, 4th – 6th November, Birmingham.
