BSIR Registries Information
BSIR is committed to providing and supporting national registries of interventional radiology procedures. Some of these are funded and managed directly by the BSIR. Others are collaborations with other specialist societies, reflecting the multi-disciplinary nature of our work.
These registries provide the opportunity to gather and analyse a large volume of data better to inform our practice. Benefits of the registries include:
- Improved understanding of the benefits and risks of specific procedures and devices.
- Provision of confidential comparative data so that individuals and departments can compare their performance with national standards.
- Providing comparative data to commissioners and providers of health care on the high standards and the quality of interventional practice in the UK.
- To provide data for contributors allowing them to comply with local and national requirements for appraisal and be ready for revalidation.
Some of the registries require data input on paper posted to the co-ordinator. Increasingly, direct data input via the internet is possible. Details of how to submit data for each registry are included in the relevant section on the BSIR Rgistries List page. By logging into this website, BSIR members can also access the BIAS and Caval Filter Registries via the My Dendrite tab.
BSIR members are encouraged to register and submit data on all their cases: the value of the data depends entirely on acquiring a large and representative sample. Contributors wishing to access the anonymised dataset should contact the Chair of the BSIR Audit and Registries Committee.
Several of the registries are run in collaboration and partnership with other societies. Regular updates of activity of these registries are provided and also can be downloaded as a PDF file, whenever registrants, wish from their login. Annual updates on registries will also be provided at the BSIR national meeting.
