Welcome!

We are the junior section of the British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR).  Our aims are to provide information and advice to Junior Doctors who have an interest in  Interventional Radiology.  As you navigate this micro-site we hope you will gain an insight into how to become an interventional radiology consultant.  One of the many attractions of interventional radiology is the constantly developing technology and increasing need for minimal access procedures.  The training is evolving rapidly and trainees need to be aware of these changes to extract the most from their rotations.

Through representation on the Educational Committee of the British Society of Interventional Radiology and the Junior Radiology Forum of the Royal College of Radiologists the junior section of BSIR has the ability to highlight deficiencies and instigate changes in the current training programme.  It is vital to the future of Interventional radiology, as a radiological specialty, that each of us plays a role in this process.

A forum is available for trainees to discuss topical issues with their peers and ask advice from senior colleagues. This is designed not only to create a 'virtual community' of interventional radiology trainees but also to spark off debates regarding the future of interventional radiology, which in turn will keep you informed of the current consensus of opinion of trainees.

Not only will BSIR membership keep you up to date with training proposals and allow you to voice your opinion but the subscription includes CIRSE membership (Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe), access to the members areas on the BSIR website (which offers information on training, fellowships, career paths and a forum) but also the CVIR (CardioVascular and Interventional Radiology) journal.

For those interested in research the BSIR offers Educational and Research bursaries with a total annual fund of up to £25,000 allocated to both grants. Bursaries are offered to active BSIR members of any grade with an appropriate research proposal.
