Definition of membership

Definition of membership grades, and rights and privileges

Full Members

Medical practitioners who have an interest in the practice of interventional radiology may become full members. They should hold a career post (consultant, full time senior academic appointment, staff grade, or associate specialist) in a hospital or other institution in Great Britain or Ireland.

Dues and Assessments

They shall pay an annual subscription of an amount determined from time to time by the Council of the BSIR .

Rights and Privileges

Full members will have the right to attend and to address all general meetings of the Society, to vote and hold office, and to serve on the Council and committees.

They may attend scientific meetings of the Society on payment of any entrance fee that is agreed by the Council.

They shall receive the official publications of the Society.

They may nominate applicants for any category of membership and for election to the Council.

They may propose changes to the rules of the Society and may propose agenda items for the Annual General Meeting as laid down by the constitution of the Society.

Training Members

Junior members will be medical practitioners in a training post (SpR, Fellow or equivalent) in a hospital in Great Britain or Ireland. Applicants for Junior membership must supply confirmation of their training status provided by the Director of their training programme.

Rights and Privileges

Junior members shall have the right to vote, but will not be eligible to hold office or serve on committees. They may not nominate candidates for membership of the Society. They will receive the publications of the Society.

An individual may be a Junior member for a maximum of three years, after which time full membership will commence. Once Junior members are appointed to a career post (consultant, full time academic appointments, staff grade or associate specialist), they may no longer be Junior members, but may transfer to full membership without further procedures. This should occur on the next occasion that the annual subscription becomes due.

Dues and Assessments

They shall pay an annual subscription of an amount determined from time to time by the Council of the BSIR. This will be less than the subscription of a full member.

Emeritus Members

After retiring from a permanent post members may remain full members for two years after ceasing employment. They may then transfer their category of membership to Emeritus member. This will be performed without further procedure although the responsibility for informing the Society via the Secretary remains with the individual member.

Rights and Privileges

Emeritus or retiring members will have the same rights and privileges as full members except they may not vote or hold office. They will receive the publications of the Society.

Dues and Assessments

They shall pay an annual subscription of an amount determined from time to time by the Council of the BSIR. This will be less than the subscription of a full member.

Honorary Members

Honorary members of the Society are elected by the Council. Honorary members may be nominated by any full member of the Society. Honorary members do not have to be interventional radiologists. Honorary members will be invited to join the Society at the next Annual General Meeting after election.

Rights and Privileges

Honorary members will have the same rights and privileges as full members except they may not vote or hold office. They will not receive the publications of the Society.

Dues and Assessments

Honorary members of the Society will not be required to pay a subscription fee.

Corresponding Members

Corresponding members shall be medical practitioners who meet the criteria for full membership, but reside abroad.

Rights and Privileges
